Unit 8: Engaging with the Task

For my Final Major Project I will be focusing on the mechanics of my game as priority.

I want to create 3 levels followed by a boss as well as a hub world. Each level will have a mechanic that will be included in the subsequent levels. I also would like to have scaling difficulty to make the game more dynamic.

The first level will be based in a dark forest based on the Dusk Forest of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky with tree zombies that chase the player.

Second level will be a cave or mine inspired by Lapis Cave of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red or Blue Rescue Team. It will have the player complete a puzzle to proceed.

The third level will be in the land of the Fell Demon based on the Fell Land of Gradlon of Fire Emblem Engage, this area will be volcanic in design. The Fell Demon is the antagonist. The player might have to sneak through his domain or have to avoid raining volcanic debris.

Then a final boss similar to the bullet hell of the Dark Matter boss of Super Pokémon Mystery Dungeon where the player will damage the boss while avoiding attacks like waves and area of effect attacks.

I want a system for the character to speak using text boxes that makes them feel alive and relatable. I want the player to feel the villager’s plight and the boss’s motivations.

I will look to create a retro theme to the whole game, using 2D pixel art characters, chiptune style music, 2D style animations and effects. However, I want the world to be 3D and feel like a magical environment that the player can explore.
