I have begun to plan out my mechanics, the first map will have monsters that chase you, I intend for there to be a simple way to evade them or defeat them, maybe drawing them through a light which kills the monsters, similar to Minecraft zombies but the effect would be instant. The second map will have the player learn the combat mechanic but I have floated the idea of making a puzzle out it to add difficulty. The third map will have a mechanic similar to the Korok Forest of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Turnback Cave of Pokémon, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, where if the player goes the wrong way through the maze they will be sent back to the start.
I have prepared my survey and it is ready for distribution, this surveys main question is the pixel density of my 2D characters and if I am creating them in a consistent style. I intend to distribute it at the start of the next week.
I have set up a group of three people for a focus group, they each have characteristic that I feel will help me as well as that they all have a keen interest in gaming. My first meet will be about setting up what expectations are, testing my mechanic ideas on them and seeing what they think of my AI chiptune music.
I have found a template of a risk assessment that I have adapted for my trip to the Needwood Forest, I thought of any risk that I would face in a woodland area which was easy as these are the woods I grew up near.
I started my secondary research into Mlynki Cave and how I will implement it as an environment in my game. I have written about how the crystals do not naturally light up so I have decided to put a story reason in my game to give a reason on why these crystals emit light.
I need to set some time aside to look at the Dragon Quest art style as I intended to do that this week but worked on a contingency plan instead. I will set at least and hour aside next week to research the Dragon Quest art style as this needs to be done before I start any serious modelling of my hub world.
Finally, I made a contingency plan of what obstacles I might face in completing my FMP. I then came up with alternate plans and general contingencies that will decrease the risk of failing.
