Artist Statement
With my game I wanted to represent both games from my childhood and new games that use retro stylings. I tried to channel my passion for these games and imitate key aspects alongside my own direction. I feel my artistic ability has vastly improved over the course of this project clearly demonstrated by the improvements from my first sprites to my final. Games that have inspired me include Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Fire Emblem, the former for its well crafted stories and sharp twists and turns, the latter for it’s ever changing style and dynamic characters. I have tried to include these elements both within my game and in key parts of my planning, research and production. When creating my first attempts at designing Rirgon’s sprite I was inspired to put my own anxieties into the design so I could have a character with depth to draw in players. I have long been a player of Dungeons and Dragons and I channelled my passion for adventure into this game as I wanted to tell a story not just make a game. I intend to carry on this story both with improvements to the game after the project is over but also in new games I will create, so as my journey progresses so will Rirgon’s.
